Exclusive 1-lakh NANO CAR Released by TATA

Tuesday, January 22nd, 2008

January 10, 2008 The Tata Rs 1-lakh car is here! And it’s called the Nano!
Tata Group chairman Ratan Tata on Thursday unveiled the Tata Nano at the 9th Auto Expo in New Delhi.
Details of the People’s Car:
Ratan Tata, while unveiling the nano, said: “The car will meet all current safety norms and all emission criteria. The pollution it will cause will be lower than 2-wheelers.”
The car, Tata said, is smaller than a Maruti [ Get Quote], but has 21 per cent more volume or space inside than the 800. He said that the dealer price of the car will be Rs 1 lakh, plus value-added tax (VAT) plus transport charges.
The car will have a 624-cc petrol engine generating 33 bhp of power. It will sport a 30-litre fuel tank and 4-speed manual gearshift. The car will come with air conditioning, but will have no power steering. It will have front disk and rear drum brakes. The company claims mileage of 23 km per litre.
The car’s dashboard features just a speedometer, fuel gauge, and oil light. The car does not have reclining seats or radio. The shock absorbers are basic.
Nano, the world’s cheapest car, costs almost half of the cheapest car currently available anywhere in the world.
”Since, a promise is a promise the standard dealer version will cost Rs 1 lakh,” said Tata Sons chairman Ratan Tata.
He informed that the car is 8 per cent smaller bumper to bumper, than the Maruti800 but at the same time 21 per cent larger in its interiors and can sit up to four people.
Dispelling myths that the car was not safe enough Tata said, ‘The car has passed the full-frontal crash and the side impact crash”. He also side stepped emission concerns and said the car will meet Euro IV norms.
While critics had been sceptical throughout about the car meeting safety and emission norms, coming as it is at that price, Tata said he was happy to announce that Nano meets all norms as would a modern car.
The car is eight per cent shorter than Maruti 800 on bumper to bumper length, but is 21 per cent more spacious, claimed Tata.
Alluding to fears expressed by environmentalist R K Pachauri and green activist Sunita Narain that the car at that price would add more vehicles on the road leading to higher vehicular pollution, Tata said the 624 cc, 33 HP petrol engine meets Bharat Stage-III emission norms and can also meet the Euro 4 norms.
“Pachauri will not have a nightmare and Sunita Narain can also sleep,” he quipped, while recalling that some people had suggested that the car should be called ‘Pachauri’ and some others said that it should be named ‘Mamta’ probably referring to the position TMC leader Mamta Banerjee had taken against the setting up of the small-car project at Singur in West Bengal.
Commenting on the safety standard, he said the car has gone through a full frontal crash test as per norms.
The Nano will come in three variants — standard and two deluxe models with AC. The standard car would be available for Rs 1 lakh (ex-showroom), while VAT and transportation costs are extra.
The Nano is expected to be commerically launched in the second half of 2008. News reports say that Tata Motors [ Get Quote] hopes to sell 500,000 units of the car, almost four times the number of Indicas it sells. Tata plans to focus on a market segment hitherto untapped.
Not since the launch of the Maruti 800 in 1983 has any car gripped the imagination of a nation and indeed car manufacturers the world over so intensely. If commercially successful, the Tata Nano can alter the passenger car market in India, and perhaps the world, beyond description.

How to use Group Schedules in Microsoft Outlook

Outlook lets you view the free/busy status of other users, either through Exchange Server or through a free/busy server such as the one offered by Microsoft or your own internal free/busy server. You’re probably aware that you can view someone else’s schedule when you create a meeting request, but you might not know that you can create and work with group schedules without creating meeting requests. This is handy when you need to monitor other people’s schedules but not schedule meetings with them.

Here’s how to create a group schedule in Outlook 2003:
1. Open the Calendar folder and click the View Group Schedules button on the toolbar
2. Click New, enter a name for the new group, and click OK
3. In the resulting group schedule dialog box, click Add Others and choose Add from Address Book
4. Select the people (or resources) whose schedules you want to include and click OK
5. Click Add Others and choose Add Public Folder if you want to add a calendar stored in a public folder

The dialog box should now show the free/busy times for the selected people and resources. If you do want to schedule a meeting, just click Make Meeting and choose an option to create either a new meeting request or a new message with a selected individual or all individuals in the schedule. Use the Zoom drop-down list to choose the amount of scheduling information to view.

How to Create Users and Databases easily in PostgreSQL

After the good response to the last post on How to Install PostgreSQL easily on Windows Vista or XP?, lets today focus on how to Create new Users and new Databases easily in PostgreSQL. As mentioned previously we will use the techy psql which is the command line interface for PostgreSQL.

You will need to first connect to the user postgres from your localhost to create the database owner. The command prompt postgres=# indicates that you are connected to the postgres database. The # in the command prompt actually means that the user connected to is a database superuser[Sort Off like in Linux].

Creating a New User:

To create a New User(mynewuser) in PostgreSQL we will use the CREATE ROLE command as follows:

postgres=#CREATE ROLE mynewuser
postgres-#login
postgres-#password ‘mypassword’;

This will create a new user called ‘mynewuser’ with the password ‘mypassword’.

Creating TableSpace :

Now we will move ahead to create the default tablespace for the new database. This is where the database’s files will be stored. Create a new folder structure as C:/myDB/mynewuser/system

The steps below will help you to create a new tablespace as mynewuser_system

postgres=# CREATE TABLESPACE mynewuser_system
postgres-# OWNER jason
postgres-# LOCATION ‘C:/myDB/mynewuser/system’;

Hers’s how you can check if the tablespace was created. Just key in the following command.

postgres=#db+ mynewuser_system

Create a Database and the related Database objects:

Finally we will now create a new database and the associated database objects. It’s very simple… so here are the SQL Statements.
postgres=# CREATE DATABASE myFirstPSQLdb
postgres-# OWNER jason
postgres-# TEMPLATE template0
postgres-# TABLESPACE mynewuser_system;

You can verify if the Database is installed properly by the following command.
postgres=#l+

Now we will finally create the related Database Objects.

First login into the Database:
postgres=# c myFirstPSQLdb

Then run your SQL script as follows:
myFirstPSQLdb=# i C:/myDB/myObjects.sql

How to easily Move or Copy Files at Will in Windows

Intuitively, when you drag a file from one place to another, it would seem reasonable that the file will be moved, not copied. That is, when you see an object disappear from a location, it shouldn’t still be there next time you look.

One of the worst inconsistencies in Windows is what actually happens to files when they’re dragged. Dragging from one place to another on the same disk ends up moving the files, while dragging from one disk to another copies them.

If you’re just dragging EXE files, a shortcut is created, and the file is neither copied nor moved. To cope with this, follow the following instructions:

* To copy a file under any situation, hold the Ctrl key while dragging.
* To move a file under any situation, hold the Shift key while dragging .
* To choose what happens to dragged files, drag them with the right mouse-button, and a menu will appear when the files are dropped

Some Cool Office Tips

WORD

Go Back to Where You Left Off in a Document
To return to the place where you last edited a Word document, press Shift+F5.

Quick Word Deletion
You can delete entire words with your keyboard. Just put your cursor at the beginning of the word and press Ctrl+Del together. This is very useful when editing.

Customize Line Spacing and Alignment
The Ctrl key is your best buddy when you want to experiment with line spacing and alignment variations. Ctrl+1 provides single spacing, Ctrl+2 provides double spacing and Ctrl+5 provides 1-1/2 line spacing. Ctrl+R right aligns a paragraph, Ctrl+L left aligns one, and Ctrl+E centers one.

EXCEL

Instant in-cell graphs
Use the repeat (REPT) function in Excel to create a bar graph inside cells. REPT looks like this: =REPT(”text”; number_of_times). For instance, REPT(”X”; 10) gives you “XXXXXXXXXX”. For in-cell bar charts, the trick is to repeat a single bar “|”. When formatted in 8 point Arial font, single bars look like bar graphs. Of course, number_of_times can also be substituted with a cell number.

POWERPOINT

Annotate during Presentations
While giving a slide show presentation, right-click in the active window then choose an annotation item from the Pointer Options submenu, such as Felt Tip Pen or Ballpoint Pen. You can write directly on the slides: underline words, draw a picture, whatever. To return to normal use, and move onto the next slide, select Arrow from the submenu.
